Half of a Yellow Sun

Recently I saw the movie ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ which follows twin girls from a wealthy Nigerian family and their path in life, each going down a different path based on the choices they made. The sisters relationship is tested by deceit, heartache, and socioeconomic differences. Intertwined in the movie is the bloody and violent war to bring independent republic to Nigeria.

My brief synopsis of the movie does not do it justice.  Watching the movie you feel the pain not only of the sisters, but of their loved ones in the movie and the persons that are killed viciously as a result of the war.  In this movie you also see the strength and resilience of people during a horrific time.   The movie is based on of the novel written by Nigerian born Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  After seeing the movie, I am curious to know how the movie aligns with the book so I am adding this to list of books to read in the near future. I enjoyed this movie so much that I saw it twice, once it Delaware and again in Philadelphia. At the time of my viewing, the movie was not mainstream theaters (to my knowledge) rather I believe it is appearing for a day or weekend in certain cities/locations.  If this comes to a theater near you, I highly suggest you see it.

Here is a YouTube video that gives a behind the scenes footage and interviews with the cast and crew of the film: Half of a Yellow Sun Featurette
